Eleven moments

Every GitHub moment
worth a show.

Footlit watches the GitHub tab you have open and reacts to eleven things: repositories, pull requests, checks and deploys, releases and issues. Here is exactly what each one is and how Footlit knows it happened.

Repositories

Repo created Applause

Opening night for something new.

What happens
You create a new repository.
How Footlit knows
You leave the “New repository” form and land on the front page of the repository you just made.

Repo deleted Farewell

Strike the set.

What happens
You delete a repository.
How Footlit knows
GitHub’s confirmation banner appears, or you submit the delete form and end up outside that repository.

Repo forked Applause

Your own copy, ready to bend.

What happens
You fork a repository.
How Footlit knows
You leave the “Create a new fork” form and land on a repository with the same name under your account.

Pull requests

Pull request opened Applause

A conversation begins.

What happens
You open a pull request.
How Footlit knows
You leave the compare or new pull request page and land on the pull request you created.

Pull request merged Applause

Two branches, one story.

What happens
A pull request you are watching is merged.
How Footlit knows
The Open or Draft badge at the top of the pull request changes to Merged while the tab is open.

Pull request closed Farewell

Not every scene makes the cut.

What happens
A pull request is closed without merging.
How Footlit knows
The Open or Draft badge changes to Closed while you are watching.

Checks and deploys

Checks passed Applause

The green check, with feeling.

What happens
Checks finish successfully on a pull request or an Actions run.
How Footlit knows
The checks heading, or the run’s Status, changes from running to passed while the page is open.

Checks failed Alarm

The show stops.

What happens
Checks fail on a pull request or an Actions run.
How Footlit knows
The same status changes from running to failed while the page is open.

Site or deploy live Applause

Pages goes up, curtain goes up.

What happens
A GitHub Pages site goes live.
How Footlit knows
A “pages build and deployment” run succeeds, or the Settings, Pages banner changes from building to “Your site is live”.

Releases and issues

Release published Applause

A tag worth a trumpet.

What happens
You publish a release.
How Footlit knows
You leave the “New release” form and land on the published release’s page. Saving a draft does not count.

Issue closed Applause

One less thing on the list.

What happens
An issue is closed.
How Footlit knows
The Open badge at the top of the issue changes to Closed while you are watching.
Only what you watch happenFootlit reacts to a change it sees while the tab is open. Opening a pull request that was merged last week, an issue that is already closed, or checks that are already green plays nothing. It also does not react to anything that happens when GitHub is not open in a tab you are looking at.

Every event can be switched off, or given its own theme, in the extension. Browse the six themes, or read about what Footlit reads and stores.
